How to handle two clients sharing one email address

In Althea, a client's email address is how we uniquely identify their records. This means that the email address has to be unique (two clients cannot use the same email address) and should be updated carefully.

Sometimes two clients share one email address, or one client manages paperwork on behalf of another client. For example, if there are two clients, George and Sally Smith, and they want George's forms and notifications to go to Sally's email address, here is the recommended setup.

  1. Create Sally as a client with her normal email address: [email protected]

  2. Create George as a new client, and for his email address, use Sally's but add a "+George" before the @: [email protected].

This helps us separate Sally's and George's accounts for compliance, but email providers will ignore the "+George" and send everything to Sally's normal inbox.
